    Description

1907-20 George Stallings Signed Letters Lot of 12. He's best remembered as the managerial mind behind the greatest comeback story in Major League history, the stunning worst-to-first resurrection from the ashes of the Boston Braves remarkable 1914 season. This key "Miracle Brave" died at age sixty-one in 1929 of heart disease, advising his physician as to the root of his problems, "Bases on balls, doc...those damned bases on balls."

Needless to say, Stallings' autograph is both rare and highly coveted, so don't let this hefty archive of correspondence convince you otherwise. In fact, only a single Stallings autograph appears in our comprehensive auction results archive of major sales in the past fourteen years. Twelve letters are here in total, each written to a gentleman named Thomas Martin, the team secretary of the Buffalo Bisons and later the Newark Indians minor league clubs. Stallings had been manager of the Bisons during the early 1900's.

Ten of the letters are handwritten, the other two typed, and all are signed at the close with a full "G.T. Stallings" autograph. Black fountain pen is utilized without exception, averaging a fairly consistent 9/10 in strength. Some nice baseball content is scattered throughout, and all pages exhibit original mailing folds but no other troubles to note. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
