1901 Barney Dreyfuss Handwritten Signed Letter to Pirates Player. The 2008 Hall of Fame inductee is best remembered today as the former owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates, builder of Forbes Field, and the founder of the World Series, the sport's most celebrated contest. He remains a fearsome obstacle for collectors of Hall of Fame autographs, having passed from this world over eight decades ago. The German-born executive is generous in this letter to Lew Carr, whose full term of service to the Majors is represented by nine games as Honus Wagner's back-up at shortstop for the 1901 Pirates. The text, in its entirety:

"Octob. 14, 1901, Lewis S. Carr, Esq., Syracuse, NY.

My dear Carr! Thanking you for your very good wishes contained in your favor of the 12th & I am delighted also to comply with your request and enclose you one of our Souvenir Pennant Pins. I trust you will wear it in remembering the weeks you spent in helping us win the flag.

With Kindest regards, I am, Sincerely Yours, Barney Dreyfuss."

All ink is 9/10 or better on this single page of "Pittsburgh Athletic Company" letterhead. Also here is a clipped fragment of another Dreyfuss letter, including just the handwritten date and three words: "My dear Carr!" Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
