Description

1914 First International Cycle Car Race Panoramic Photograph. Cycle cars hold a special place in the history and evolution of the motor vehicle. During their heyday of the 1910's and 1920's, they were the rage. Small, light, stylish, and affordable, they were the actually world's first economy cars and the boutique vehicles of choice for those daring individualists whose eclectic, automotive tastes fell somewhere between an automobile and a motorcycle.

The impressive panoramic sepia photograph for sale here commemorates the "1st International Cycle Car Race, Detroit, July 4-5, 1914" and depicts the sixteen competitors in Detroit, lined up with their drivers, co-drivers, and mechanics. A packed grandstand is seen to the left. Participating automotive brands included Twombly (three), Saginaw (two), Vixen (two), Princess, Coey, Detroit, Morgan, Downing, Bebe Peugeot, Mercury, Malcolm, and Zip. A fantastic artefact for all early motor car collectors. 43x10.5" framed. There are three tears with some light discoloration and minor paper loss, but the image is still very sharp and attractive.
