1951 Bob Feller Complete/Autographed Game-Worn Uniform Mears 9.5 (Jersey).
Best-In-Class Expert Analysis/Summary:
As you travel back in time, and for most players, vintage baseball flannels tend to become increasingly elusive. Taken a step further, locating a complete uniform is even more improbable. In 1951, Bob Feller enjoyed one of his finest seasons, leading the league in victories (22) and winning percentage (.733). That year, the flamethrowing righty also threw one of his three career no-hitters against the Detroit Tigers. This complete uniform, a surefire and period anomaly from any year, was worn by Feller during, arguably, his last elite season with the Cleveland Indians.
From a technical perspective, this Wilson-issued jersey did not achieve the grade of "10" due to a reinforced 1951 American League Golden Anniversary Logo patch. It was still attached but allegedly had some loose threading. From an eye appeal perspective, although it exhibits even wear from use throughout, this jersey has been preserved in elite condition. The Indians name appears on the front in red on blue tackle twill, as does Feller's uniform number (19) on the back, which contrasts beautifully with the white jersey. In addition, the Indians Logo (left) and 1951 Anniversary (right) patches can be found on each shoulder, adding visual allure to this relic.
Finally, Feller has autographed the uniform several times, with inscriptions placed on the jersey and pants. The display quality and scarcity of the jersey put it in exclusive company, and the fact that Feller's pants join it to complete the uniform elevates it to "unicorn" status.
