Museum Services

Louis Béroud (French, 1852-1916) Au Musée du Louvre -- les Murillo, 1912

Heritage Auctions' Museum & Institutional Services department is dedicated to fulfilling the specific collection management needs of museums and institutions with the utmost respect and discretion. With the specific needs of museums and institutions in mind, Heritage has created a selection of services to assist in the valuation and management of your collection, exhibitions, and museum. Preliminary consultations for any of these services can be arranged at no cost.

Appraisals of Permanent Collections or Works on Loan

Heritage provides various types of appraisals that can assist in the operation of your institution. All appraisal reports are in compliance with IRS, legal, and USPAP standards.

  • Insurance Appraisals - Keep your insurance policy up-to-date, insure a new piece, or even insure pieces entering the museum on loan for an exhibition
  • Fair Market Value Appraisals - Determine the value of your items for future collection management, or simply get an up-to-date catalogue of your property
  • Non-Cash Charitable Donation Appraisals - Refer donors if they need an appraisal for tax purposes of their donation

Collection Management

If you are looking to add to or refine your collection, Heritage experts will help you with every step of the process. Our specialists can speak with your organization, set goals and guidelines for you collection, and notify you of pieces and opportunities in Heritage sales to meet those goals.

Expertise and Speaking Engagements

Heritage is happy to provide an expert from one of our over 40 collecting categories if the necessary expertise is outside the scope of your museum or collection. We can arrange for special event speakers, or simply consult on any research questions you may have.

Special Events and Private Auctions

The Heritage show rooms in Dallas, Beverly Hills, and New York are perfect for member appreciation events, networking events, or any other special event you may host. Our staff can coordinate with your institution to plan for any event you may require. Heritage can also provide licensed auctioneers for private charity benefits or client appreciation events.

Heritage has worked alongside many institutions to provide these services. Previous partnerships include: the American Red Cross, National Cowboys and Western Heritage Museum, Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Dallas Museum of Art, Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Heard Natural Science Museum, Historical Museum of Southern Florida, Geppi's Entertainment Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Art Institute of Chicago, National Portrait Gallery, Texas State Historical Society, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Toledo Museum of Natural History, Ford Presidential Library & Museum, Williams College Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Judith Leiber Museum, the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame Museum, and many others.
