DALLAS, Texas (May 14, 2020) — Thanks to Don Henley, Roger Staubach and a galaxy of Dallas-Fort Worth sports stars, Heritage Auctions raised $100,000 for the North Texas Food Bank the during its "In This Together” Charity Auction Event Wednesday night.

"This effort will provide 300,000 meals for hungry North Texans during a critical time,” said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. "A special 'thank you’ to the team at Heritage Auctions for their effort that has yielded some amazing results.”

The charity auction included several one-of-a-kind items created especially for this event, including:

· Lyrics to the Eagles’ 1973 American standard "Desperado,” handwritten by Henley for this event, which sold for $33,600

· A guitar donated by Henley and signed by the current Eagles lineup, which went for $12,600

· A diagram of the legendary "Hail Mary” play painted by Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer Roger Staubach and signed by Staubach and Drew Pearson, which sold for $7,500

· A "Player for a Day” experience offered by FC Dallas, won for $3,840

· Luxury seating and a meet-and-greet with the Dallas Stars, which sold for $2,640

· A Ticket radio station tour and meet-and-greet with an on-air personality, which sold for $1,440

The event also featured numerous items autographed by such legends and rising stars as Dirk Nowitzki, Troy Aikman, Luka Doncic, Michael Irvin and Kristaps Porzingis, and raised $75,161 — with every cent going to the North Texas Food Bank.

Dallas-based Heritage Auctions’ owners underwrote the auction, donated 100 percent of the $12,527 buyer’s premiums, and made an additional $25,000 cash donation to the food bank.

During the months of March and April alone, the North Texas Food Bank distributed more than 16 million pounds of food to hungry North Texans through its Feeding Network and mobile-pantry efforts, such as the one taking place at Fair Park on Thursday, May 14. In just the last eight weeks, the food bank has fed more than 22,000 families via its mobile pantry program alone.

That number is only expected to grow as families begin lining up Thursday morning at Fair Park, one of several distribution events this week alone.

"The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating financial impact across our region: Thousands of people are facing unemployment, and the food insecurity rate is skyrocketing,” said Cunningham. "The impact will undoubtedly be widespread and long-lasting. Thankfully, the community of North Texas has stepped up to help the North Texas Food Bank ensure that our hungry neighbors are fed.”

That community, in this case, included the Dallas Mavericks, the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Stars, FC Dallas and the Texas Rangers, who quickly agreed to participate in the "In This Together” event. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban’s only instructions were to "make it as big as possible” when he was the first team owner to sign on to the event.

PSA/DNA also donated its authentication services to the auction.

Heritage Auctions began assembling the auction late last month, after images from one Fair Park event — lines of cars in place hours before opening, the wait snaking for miles — went viral. It took only a week for the auction to come together. Henley’s contributions came only hours after the auction’s launch. The Dallas resident also had seen the staggering need and offered to contribute the newly written lyrics and the guitar.

His additions helped make this as big as possible, as Cuban had instructed.

"When getting involved with charities, I look for places where I can have the biggest impact,” Cuban said. "The North Texas Food Bank is such a place.”

The event was held like all of Heritage Auctions’ events — from a safe social distance. More than 300 bidders, online and over the phone, took part in the night’s event and played a key part in providing 300,000 meals for the North Texas Food Bank.
