Last Chance to Consign to Heritage Platinum Auction

Sadaharu Oh: 1977 Game-Worn Yomiuri Giants Jersey, cap and bat
With our upcoming 2012 August Platinum Auction nearly filled to capacity, we would like to take this final opportunity to offer a "last call" for any high-end consignments. If you have any rare and significant sports items that may potentially fit into our most anticipated auction of the year, please call Chris Ivy directly at (214) 409-1319 or email him at CIvy@HA.com.

We also would like to take this chance to highlight one of the most exciting pieces that will be featured in our Platinum Night AuctionSadaharu Oh's 1977 Game-Worn Yomiuri Giants Jersey with Cap and Game Used Bat.

Sadaharu Oh: 1977 Game-Worn Yomiuri Giants Jersey, cap and bat
One of few authentic Oh game-worn collections ever to hit the auction block, it was passed down to our consignor by his father, an Orange County, California Chevrolet dealer who supplied vehicles to the likes of Nolan Ryan, Andy Messerschmidt, Jay "Klepto" Johnstone and others. One of the man's closest buddies was California Angels' ace Clyde Wright, who became the franchise's second twenty-game winner in 1970, posting the first no-hitter in Anaheim Stadium history. After ending an eight-season tour of duty with the Angels, Wright bounced to Milwaukee and Texas before crossing the Pacific to conclude his professional career with three seasons (1976-78) pitching for the Yomiuri Giants in Japan.

Heritage Sports Experts To Hit New York and Philly During June Consignment Trips

With Heritage Auctions' August Platinum and Signature Auction consignment deadlines right around the corner, our sports experts will be travelling to New York and Philadelphia this month in order to view large collections, which would be suitable for what are shaping up to be two of our most impressive auctions to date.

Heritage sports representatives Mark Jordan and Derek Grady will be picking up quality consignments in the New York City and Philadelphia area from June 21-25 and setting up at "The Philly Show," at the Valley Forge Convention Center from June 22-24. If you have vintage sports cards, autographs or memorabilia please contact Mark in advance at MarkJ@HA.com or his direct line at (214) 409-1187, or Derek at DerekG@HA.com (214) 409-1975 to discuss your consignment and pickup.

Sunday Internet Auction Highlights

HA.com/Sports is the place to be every Sunday night for collectors of fine sports memorabilia and trading cards.

Over 100 lots will close to initial bidding at 10 PM CT. On a lot-by-lot basis, starting at 10:00 PM CT, any person who has bid on the lot previously may continue to bid on that lot until there are no more bids for 30 minutes. For example, if you bid on a lot during Normal Bidding, you could participate during Extended Bidding for that lot, but not on lots you did not bid on previously. If a bid was placed at 10:15, the new end time for that lot would become 10:45. If no other bids were placed before 10:45, the lot would close. If you are the high bidder on a lot, changing your bid will not extend the bidding during the 30 Minute Ending phase (only a bid from another bidder will extend bidding).

No other major sports memorabilia auction house provides its clientele this much bidding excitement. It's just another reason why Heritage is the World's Largest Collectibles Auctioneer.

Call or email today to discuss consigning your fine sport collectibles and trading cards to an upcoming Heritage auction.

Jerry Weist Collection of Sci-Fi and Fantasy Art leads Illustration Art Auction

Descent, The Martian ChroniclesThe Jerry Weist Collection of Science-Fiction and Fantasy art anchors Heritage Auctions June 27-28 Illustration Art Signature Auction with iconic art from greats of the genre such as Frank R. Paul, J. Allen St. John, Michael Whelan, Alex Schomburg, Wally Wood, and many others.

"This is our second special auction from the estate of the pioneering collector, publisher, historian and scholar Jerry Weist," said Todd Hignite, Vice President of Heritage Auctions, "who many of us had the pleasure to also name as a good friend."

Frank R. Paul: Wonder Stories pulp coverThis is one of the most important collections of artwork from the genre to ever be offered and the impeccable selection represents the last substantial group from the estate. Highlights include Frank R. Paul's masterful Wonder Stories pulp cover, August 1930 (estimate: $10,000+) and Michael Whelan's amazing Descent, The Martian Chronicles cover, 1990 (estimate: $10,000+), from the ground-breaking work of fiction by the recently passed Ray Bradbury.

"Among many other accomplishments, Jerry wrote a superb biography of Ray Bradbury, Bradbury: An Illustrated Life, and was an avid Bradbury collector as well," said Hignite. "This auction includes several lots — including the art to some of the greatest EC Comics adaptations ever done — related to that great genius of science fiction, who passed away this week at age 91."

Gil Elvgren: Skirting the IssuePin-Up and Pulp Art continue to be incredibly hot areas of Illustration Art collecting and this auction promises a wide selection of rare and stunning pieces, many of which come from the continued boon of The Estate of Charles Martignette, led by Gil Elvgren's charming and vibrant Skirting the Issue (Breezing Up), estimated at $30,000+ and Up in the Air (Whooooooosh!), 1965, also with a $30,000+ estimate-the group of Elvgrens in this sale are among the nicest Heritage has ever offered.

Charles Gates Sheldon: Lady with PuppetOther stand-outs include masterworks from all periods of Alberto Vargas' illustrious career, including Glamour Pin-Up, circa 1940s, one of the great master's best works, estimated at $50,000+, a terrific and exceedingly rare Saturday Evening Post cover by the incomparable Charles Gates Sheldon, Lady with Puppet, The Saturday Evening Post cover, October 31, 1925, as well as an incredible grouping by contemporary great Olivia, who rivals any of the mid-century masters of the female form.

Maurice Sendak: Where the Wild Things Are sketcheA richly varied selection of magazine cover, story, and advertising art from the Golden Age of American Illustration is also included, including Study for The Saturday Evening Post cover, March 10, 1934, by J.C. Leyendecker, estimated at $15,000+.

Many more of the undisputed greats are represented, including Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish, James Montgomery Flagg, and Frank Earle Schoonover, just to name a few, along with a beautiful selection of children's book art, including charming Where the Wild Things Are sketches by the late Maurice Sendak.
