Another signed Ruth Goudey from young Senators fan collection!

1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53, Signed, PSA/DNA Authentic. Presented is the second of three signed Goudeys on offer within this Platinum Night event, each consigned by the elderly Depression-era Washington Senators fan who personally acquired the autographs as a boy. Within his recently rediscovered box of childhood baseball treasures resided an autograph album brimming with American League stars, the only National League exceptions being members of the 1933 New York Giants, who traveled to Griffith Stadium to meet the Senators in that year's World Series, as well as a program for that Fall Classic battle. The autograph album is on offer within the Final Session portion of this Platinum Night auction.

It was that year that the fourteen-year old youngster collected the first great bubble gum issue in baseball card history, a set that joins the 1909-11 T206 and 1952 Topps Baseball in a hobby triumvirate fondly dubbed "The Big Three." Babe Ruth, who had recently seen his star soar even higher in a four-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs in a World Series best remembered for his "Called Shot," appears four times in the 1933 Goudey set, and half of those appear within this Platinum Night auction in autographed format.

This number fifty-three card appears in the VG condition typical of survivors in the modern hobby, but diverges from the norm in the most agreeable way possible, an 8.5/10 black fountain pen autograph from the reigning Home Run King. It's every bit the equal of the example that commanded over $50,000 in our May 2013 Signature Auction, one of the most desirable autographed relics to emerge from the Depression-era game. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Authentic.
