Description

1948 Bowman George Mikan #69 SGC 88 NM/MT 8! A new chapter for the role of the center was penned by this 6' 10" Hall of Fame legend. There isn't a big man currently in the NBA who doesn't owe Mikan a debt of gratitude. His style and presence on the court whether he was taking a shot over the heads of his opponents, going for a rebound or blocking a shot, Mikan changed the game and at the same time the popularity of the sport. Even this high quality square of cardboard seems unfit to pay homage to the first great center of the modern era. It is fitting that his rookie card appearance comes within the first great basketball issue of the modern era of trading cards. Graded SGC 88 NM/MT 8, one of only a precious handful graded NM/MT, there are a trio rated higher. Perfect color, close to perfect centering and tight registration (a rare treat) are combined with a quartet of high quality corners and problem-free surfaces. The boldly printed front greatly lessen the impact of the lone stock imperfection so commonly seen with the card stock Bowman used in '48. The two-color reverse is completely free of blemishes and unsightly stock imperfections, a rare treat for this issue.
