1913 New York Giants Opening Day Panoramic Photograph. The defending National League Champions kicked off a new season at the famed Polo Grounds on April 10, 1913, a date widely accepted as the birthdate of the New York Yankees, as they'd move from Hilltop Park to the Polo Grounds this year (and play their season opener on the road as their Giants landlords used their shared home park). Though the Giants would fall in an eight-to-nothing shutout not long after this image was snapped, that poor start does nothing to reduce the appeal of this sepia-toned beauty. And this team would once again represent the Senior Circuit in the 1913 Fall Classic.A careful hand has inked the names of each of the pictured team members, including iconic figures like Christy Mathewson, John McGraw, Jim Thorpe, Rube Marquard, Chief Meyers and Fred Merkle. Imprint at lower left reads, "National News Service, Copyright 1913." Visible dimensions are 7.75x26," with the frame at 11x29.5." We believe there is moisture on the left side (Marquard and Meyers images), which, if removed, could cause harm to the surface.
