1989 Carl Yastrzemski Custom Hall of Fame Induction Ring--One of Three Made!
It was the most daunting assignment in baseball, a Major League debut in the shadows of two titans of the game: Ted Williams and Fenway Park's Green Monster. But this strapping son of a Polish potato farmer quickly proved himself equal to the task, becoming over the course of twenty-three seasons in Boston one of the city's most celebrated sports stars, with a retired jersey and Hall of Fame induction to match his legendary predecessor. While Teddy Ballgame maintains, in the eyes of many baseball historians, his self-proclaimed title as the greatest hitter of all-time, Yaz was unquestionably the superior fielder, a rocket-armed assassin with a preternatural gift for anticipating the tricky caroms of baseball's most famous outfield wall. The proof is in the pudding of seven Gold Gloves in Yaz' trophy case.

That mastery of all facets of our national pastime earned the Red Sox superstar a well-deserved first ballot election to the Baseball Hall of Fame, where he joined Johnny Bench for the Golden Anniversary induction ceremonies in Cooperstown. Soon after, the 1967 Triple Crown winner sought to commemorate his enshrinement with the production of a tiny quantity of custom rings--just three in total--of which this is one.

A 1992 letter gifts the ring to legendary collector Barry Halper, from whose famous 1999 auction the piece originally entered the greater hobby. A bold "YAZ" is set against a field of genuine diamonds on the ring face, encircled by raised text reporting, "Baseball Hall of Fame." Left shank provides a detailed image of the Hall of Fame between text reading, "Red Sox" and "July 23, 1989," Yastrzemski's induction date. Right shank pictures the man swinging amidst his greatest career accomplishments. Text reads, "Yastrzemski, 3308 Games Played, 452 Home Runs, 3419 Hits." Interior band is stamped "Balfour 14K" and measures to a size nine and a half (9.5). Weight is thirty-six grams (36 g.). Fine condition. Letter of provenance from Carl Yastrzemski. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (autograph on LOP). Auction LOA from SGC Authentic (autograph on LOP).
