1939 Ty Cobb Single Signed Baseball Signed the Eve of His Hall of Fame Induction.Though it could be effectively argued that the Georgia Peach was a baseball immortal long before he even hung up his deadly spikes, this OAL (Harridge) baseball finds the reigning Hit King in the final hours before the official consecration. Applied to the side panel in 7/10 black fountain pen ink, Cobb's flowing signature is underscored by his own notation reading, "June-11-39."
On June 12th, he'd join Ruth, Wagner, Young and the gang at the Cooperstown ribbon-cutting ceremonies to inaugurate the most hallowed brotherhood of our national pastime. The signature owes a degree of its solid preservation to a vintage coating of shellac, while scattered scuffing and toning only minimally impedes upon the particularly timely and utterly essential signature.
