The very first World Cup!

1930 World Cup Runner-Up Silver Medal Presented to Argentina Forward Mario Evaristo. From a global standpoint, sports collectibles don't get much bigger than this. Exceedingly rare silver medallion was the runner-up prize for Argentine forward Mario Evaristo, who scored one goal in Group Play against Chile en route to Argentina's championship game appearance in the first ever World Cup. La Albiceleste would fall to neighboring Uruguay by a score of 4-2 in the final. A national holiday was declared in the victor's homeland, while, in Buenos Aires, a disappointed mob lobbed stones at the Uruguayan consulate. Just under 70,000 watched Argentina fall in the 1930 World Cup Final in 1930, with over a billion tuning in to the France-Croatia match in 2018.

Just thirteen teams competed in this inaugural World Cup, played in the home nation of the Champions, and none present could have imagined the global phenomenon that the tournament would become. Relics from this first edition are very rare, and certainly awards such as this stand atop the hierarchy of that thin population. Winged Victory - the Greek Goddess Nike - stands beneath "Coupe de Monde" text on obverse of the 1x1.5" pendant, with "Montevideo, Juillet 1930" straddling a laurel wreath with Evaristo's name engraved within on verso. The prize is crafted from silver, a rather fitting element for a country that derives its name from the precious metal. This is the second silver medal that we have had the pleasure of offering, the other from Argentine keeper Juan Botasso.
