1923 New York Yankees Original Photograph by Brown Brothers, PSA/DNA Type 1. While the PSA/DNA label adds a "Circa" to its date, other examples of this photo have been definitively attributed to the 1923 team that christened Yankee Stadium with the franchise's first World Championship, and this is probably the finest example we've encountered. The balance of light and darkness and the crispness of the image are beyond reproach, and only at sharp angles to the light do we find the slightest hints of wrinkling to the surface, leaving the image to present as NRMT from any reasonable viewing distance. While the Babe is an expected figure for the 1923 roster, the appearance of a nineteen-year old Lou Gehrig in the front row is not, as the Iron Horse made only thirteen appearances that year. "1923" written in pencil on verso, otherwise blank. Dimensions 3.5x5". The lot also includes a paper caption from a 1923 Yankees team photo. At least six players from that championship team--Babe Ruth, Carl Mays, Waite Hoyt, Sam Jones, Joe Bush and Herb Pennock"--were acquired from the Red Sox. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Type 1.Auction Info
