Description

1922 Lou Gertenrich Candy Ty Cobb (Throwing) SGC Poor 1 - Only Three Graded Examples! UPDATE: We have leaned the unspecified entry in the SGC census is a "Throwing" pose and another has been graded. There are now three confirmed examples.

The mid-1910s was an era where sources could buy into the rights to produce baseball cards with their brand. The candy industry did this in the early 1920s. At their centennial, some brands are relatively easy to acquire, some are scarce, some rare, a few are close to impossible. Such is the case with "Lou Gertenrich." Lou was an ex-major leaguer with just three games to his credit. Ironically, most cards do not even have more than three confirmed examples. As the best of his era, cards of Ty Cobb did not get discarded easily. Still, this is one of ONLY three cards on record with SGC and PSA combined. Graded SGC Poor 1. Condition is noted as a matter of fact as it is possibly unique, the card presents at the VG-EX level. Like so many others, our card has been removed from a scrapbook leaving three areas of surface loss on the reverse. Both areas minimally affect any of the printing. For the most passionate Cobb enthusiast, this is a card that they must have for their collection. The combined Lou Gertenrich SGC/PSA census totals rests at sixty cards.
