2002-03 Patrick Roy Game Worn & Signed Colorado Avalanche Jersey with Mei Gray Stamp, Photo Matched to 4/4 vs. Ducks His Final Regular Season Road Jersey with Team Letter from The Patrick Roy Collection.UPDATE: This jersey has been photo matched by Sports Investors to 4/4/2003 which was his last regular season road game of his career and career victory number 550. The jersey also matched to 3/8/2003, and to another undated photo. The jersey did not match to any of the three road playoff games.
Selected in 2004 by a panel of writers and fans as the greatest goaltender in NHL history, Patrick Roy is the only player in history to win the Conn Smythe award three times. Credited as a pioneer of the highly-popular butterfly style of goaltending, the 2006 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee wore this jersey during the last stage of his remarkable career. His final game occurred at home in the playoffs, but this was Roy's final road jersey. A letter of provenance on Avalanche letterhead emphatically states the following: On behalf of Pierre Lacroix and the Colorado Avalanche, we would like to offer you the enclosed final game worn jersey you requested."
There is a MeiGray patch on the inside (A01239) which helps establish authentication. We looked up the number and it reveals this was Roy's third regular season jersey. Some puckering is present on the oversized team emblem from launderings administered The left sleeve end has a few burns near the end of the burgundy portion. The tri-color numbers have silver spackletwill incorporated into the design and have softened from use/wear. The fight strap is signed by Roy and has taken on a pinkish hue from being washed.
