Baseball was not immune to losing some of that legendary charm, with the retirement of Ted Williams along with the 1960 season being the final season to feature 16 teams and the 154 game schedule in both leagues. The 1960 season also saw the Pittsburgh Pirates stop the Championship March of the New York Yankees with a 7th-game walk-off victory. Casey Stengel was fired after this loss, despite winning 10 pennants and seven World Series in 12 seasons.
