Description

1925 Jim Barnes British Open Championship News Photographs Lot of 2. Jim Barnes played in every Open Championship in the decade of the 1920's except one, but far and away his greatest achievement in the Open was his victory at Prestwick in 1925. This would prove to be the final time the old links at Prestwick would host The Open. Barnes's four-round total of 300 nipped Ted Ray and Archie Compston by just one shot.

The first of these two original news photos shows the lanky Barnes upon completion of his swing and the original caption dated July 6, 1925 detailing his great victory. This photo measures 6 .5x8.5 and is exhibits minor creasing and wear at upper right.

Traveling back to America after his great Open triumph, Barnes is shown relaxing on board the ship he sailed home. Purple stamping on reverse notes "Jim Barnes open golf champ July 25, 1925," twice. This original Culver Picture wire photo measures 5 x7"and is in excellent condition with corner chip. Letter of provenance from Barnes family.
