Description

1948 Masters Tournament Brass Ashtray Presented to Sam Snead. It's considered one of the rarest and most desirable Masters gifts in existence, issued only to the fifty-seven players competing in the twelfth edition of the fabled tournament at Augusta. Despite Snead's absence from the leader board this year, the engraved name of this legendary golfer at the lower edge clearly establishes this as the best of that endangered breed. The design incorporates the classic "Augusta National Golf Club" logo at top and provides the geography of the Azalea Hole, the thirteenth, at center. "Masters Tournament 1948" stands in raised lettering along lower edge. Verso bears the maker's mark of "Black, Starr & Gorham, Inc." Only here do we encounter the slightest instances of oxidation, leaving the front to present without noteworthy distraction. Dimensions approximately 7x8". Letter of provenance from Jack Snead.
