Description

1985 Magic Johnson Western Conference Finals (Game 4) Worn & Signed Sneakers. Dating from the height of the Showtime era, when the Lakers were running and gunning and Magic was leading the league in dimes at 13.1 per game, the presented Converse All-Stars display white/purple colorway with white leather uppers, the Star & Chevron logo sewn on in purple leather, and "Magic" in purple stencil stamping. Other features include purple leather panels (slightly faded in parts) on the exterior ankle collars, Converse logo on the heel tabs and "Converse All-Star" labels on the exterior tongues. Interior flap tags state "Made In USA 14 1/2." Furthermore, the left sneaker is inscribed and signed "To Louie, Good Luck, Magic Johnson" in 8/10 vintage blue ballpoint.

The pair exhibits signs of both wear and aging. There is no degradation to the exterior of the shoes, but the lining of the interior ankle padding has partially degraded and flaked away. Furthermore, the shoelaces appear to have been replaced.

The sneakers date from Game 4 of the 1985 Western Conference Finals when Magic's seventeen points, thirteen assists and six rebounds propelled the Lakers to the brink of the NBA Finals where Magic would defeat Bird in a legendary Lakers vs. Celtics showdown.

Provenance: Our consignor's uncle worked for the Denver Nuggets and presented the sneakers to our consignor and his father after the game. The sneakers were originally designated for a ball boy named "Louie," but were instead rerouted to our consignor and his father. Letter of provenance from our consignor. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
