Description

1967 Emlen Tunnell Pro Football Hall of Fame Ring. During the New Giants' magical decade of the 1950's, when the team was a perennial contender, Emlen Tunnell served as a key leader in the squad's famed Umbrella Defense, and in doing so put fear into every quarterback they faced. The first African American to play for the Giants, and the first to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Tunnell intercepted a then-record 79 passes during his 14 seasons in the National Football League.

Heritage Auctions is proud to present Tunnell's ring he received for his election into Canton, and it is accompanied with rock-solid provenance from Terik Dean, son of former NFLer Ted Dean, who was a close friend of the Tunnells. Exhibiting moderate wear throughout, it is properly stamped "BALFOUR 10K" in the interior band, while "Emlen Tunnell, Elected 1967" and "Halfback Hall of Fame" is showcased on the side shanks. Arguably, the most significant piece featuring the legendary Giants and Green Bay Packers safety, it will surely turn the heads of the most astute gridiron enthusiasts. Letter of provenance from Tarik Dean.
