Description

1979 Wayne Gretzky's First NHL Game Used Puck. By the time he was 18 years of age, Wayne Gretzky had already played in a World Junior tournament, and in the WHA Finals for Edmonton against the Winnipeg Jets during the Spring of 1979, so all that was left was for "The Great One," which he would later be called, to accomplish was to conquer the NHL. In 1979, Mush March was already a Blackhawks legend, and the only man to play on two Chicago Stanley Cup teams, and when on October 10, 1979, the exciting Edmonton Oilers opened up the 1979-80 season at Chicago Stadium, Mush Marsh was asked to drop the puck in the opening faceoff of the game. The rest, of course, is history. The Oilers would win four Stanley Cups in the 1980's and Gretzky would become one of the most prolific pure scorers the NHL has ever seen. This game used puck from Gretzky's first game in the NHL is perhaps the most historic piece of memorabilia to ever show up for Gretzky collectors, especially due to the fact that we are able to pinpoint the exact instance this puck was used. Puck is masterfully showcased on a wooden 6x8" plaque with "Puck Faced Off Opening Game Chicago Stadium October 1979" engraved on its gold plate. Please consider this piece for one of the finest of hockey collections in North America. LOA Harold March.
