Description

1984 Detroit Tigers World Series Championship Trophy Presented to Larry Herndon. After leading the Big Red Machine to World Championship glory in 1975 and 1976, Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson clawed his way back to the top of the mountain this season in the Motor City, where the Tigers swept all three home games to conclude the 1984 World Series at four games to one. Documenting the feat that ensured Anderson's future Hall of Fame induction is this standard format World Championship trophy, standing twelve inches in height and bearing the press pins of the victorious Tigers and the vanquished San Diego Padres on the base. A golden band below is engraved,"World Series Champions, Detroit Tigers, 1984, Larry Herndon." Underside of base holds "Awards by Balfour" label. A nice memento of happier days in the City of Detroit.

The starting leftfielder for the 1984 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers, Larry Herndon got the game-winning hit in Game One of the 1984 World Series and also recorded the final out of the series off the bat of Tony Gwynn. He also shares the MLB record for most home runs hit in consecutive at bats (four) and his minor league roommate was wrestler Randy "Mach Man" Savage. Letter of provenance from Larry Herndon.
