Description

1909 Ogden's Ltd. Pugilists & Wrestlers Jack Johnson #55 PSA NM-MT 8 - None Higher! Jack Johnson was a man who battled just as hard outside of the ring as he did inside it. Johnson became the World Heavyweight Champion by defeating Tommy Burns in Australia on December 26, 1908, becoming the first black man to accomplish that feat. Today, collectors' appreciation of this first African-American Heavyweight Champion has only continued to grow, considerably more so in the wake of Ken Burns' PBS documentary "Unforgivable Blackness." Johnson is one of the most highly collected boxers in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Offered is a high-grade 1909 Ogden's Cigarettes card of the legendary boxer Jack Johnson. Our offered card features excellent colors, terrific centering with just some minimal corner tip and edge wear. Graded PSA NM-MT 8. There are almost one hundred and fifty submissions made to PSA. This is one of eight cards graded NM-MT with none higher.
