Description

Period-Signed 1952 Berk Ross Mickey Mantle PSA Poor 1, PSA/DNA Auto 9 - Pop One, Only Two Higher - From The Golden Age Collection. Nicknamed "The Mick," New York Yankees Hall of Fame center fielder Mickey Mantle was always a threat every time he stepped up to home plate. With 536 career home runs and three AL MVP awards to his credit, Mantle consistently struck fear in the hearts of opposing pitchers. His career in pinstripes totaled 18 seasons and during that time he led the Bronx Bombers to 12 AL pennants and seven World Series crowns. His much-anticipated induction into Cooperstown took place in 1974.

Offered is a 1952 Berk Ross card that shows Mickey striking a batting pose. If you're not familiar with this trading card issue, don't feel too bad; Berk Ross never enjoyed the notoriety of Topps and Bowman, who dominated the market in the first decade of the post-war era. But today that relative scarcity tilts the market metrics of supply and demand seriously toward the bulls. This lower-grade example of the Mantle card is found with good color but showing signs of toning and two pin holes are clearly evident, the second one responsible for some paper loss. Beyond its scarcity, what really drives this card into another stratosphere of collectability is Mickey's period signature that graces the front. Well before his use of "half moons" for his M's, Mantle signed his name rather plainly, which makes this a vintage card with a vintage autograph. Graded PSA Poor 1 with a certified PSA/DNA Auto 9. According to the PSA Pop Report, this is the only autographed card graded POOR with just two rated higher.
