Description
1926 Wally Pipp New York Yankees to Cincinnati Reds Sale Agreement. The Yankees first baseman who "took the two most expensive aspirins on earth" the day his headache allowed a young Lou Gehrig to play the first of his 2,130 consecutive games at his position quickly realized that the Iron Horse's unlimited promise left no room for him in the Yankee stable. Presented is the tangible documentation of that fact, the January 18, 1926 Uniform Agreement for the Assignment of a Player's Contract to or by a Major League Club that delivered Pipp to the Reds franchise. The single page document is signed at the close by Yankees team owner Jacob Ruppert (secretarially by Ed Barrow, as was common) and Cincinnati Reds president August Hermann, as well as a witness. Signatures rate 9/10 or better. Page exhibits original storage folds but no other issues of note. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.View all of [The Seth Swirsky Collection ]
