1916 Chicago Cubs vs. New York Giants Ticket Stub - Mathewson & Brown Final Game, PSA Authentic. Christy Mathewson and Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown were two of the greatest pitchers of the early 20th century and fierce rivals in the National League's golden age, particularly during the heated matchups between Mathewson's New York Giants and Brown's Chicago Cubs. Both pitchers were dominant in the dead-ball era, with Mathewson known for his intelligence, impeccable control, and signature "fadeaway" pitch (a type of screwball), while Brown, who lost parts of two fingers in a childhood accident, used his uniquely shaped hand to generate incredible movement on his pitches.

Their rivalry came to a head during several intense pennant races between 1905 and 1911, as each helped lead their team to National League championships-Mathewson's Giants in 1905 and Brown's Cubs in 1906, 1907, and 1908. Their showdowns symbolized not just team rivalry, but a clash of styles: Mathewson's clean-cut image and cerebral approach versus Brown's gritty, unorthodox mechanics.
