Description

1989 Oakland Athletics World Series Championship Salesman Sample Ring. The victor's prize for a Fall Classic that is immortalized in baseball history as "The Earthquake Series" for the Loma Prieta earthquake that struck just prior to the start of the third game, necessitating a ten-day delay in the contest. The Athletics were shaken but not stirred, however, picking up right where they had left off to complete their sweep of the cross-bay rival San Francisco Giants. Presented here is a salesman sample ring from that team.

A large faux diamond rests at the center of a green stone on the face, ringed by twenty smaller faux diamonds and raised text announcing "Oakland Athletics World Champs." Left shank bears "Sample"above a classic elephant logo waving a "World Series Champs" flag and text recounting the four to nothing sweep. Right shank reports "1989 World Series Battle of the Bay," above a miniature World Series trophy. The ring weighs thirty-eight grams (38 g.), measures to a size eleven (11), and is stamped "10K," along with the Jostens mark. A special prize rarely made available in the collecting hobby.
