Description

1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle Rookie #253 PSA VG-EX 4. Hall of Fame superstar Mickey Mantle played his entire 18-year MLB career for the vaunted New York Yankees during the 1950s and '60s. Through it all, he swatted 536 home runs and drove in 1,509 runs. All the fun started in 1951, when as a 19-year-old upstart from Commerce, Oklahoma, he was brought up to play right field for the Bronx Bombers. The Yankees were grooming him to be Joe DiMaggio's likely successor in center and had him play alongside Joe D. that season. Despite being sent back down to the minors for 40 games for more grooming, Mickey still hit 13 home runs, drove in 65 runs and registered 91 hits overall in The Show.

Presented is Mantle's cherished rookie card (#253) from the '51 Bowman series, which is officially recognized as his true RC. Though stories abound surrounding his very first Topps card (#311) from the company's 1952 release, his '51 Bowman card remains the very first offering of Mantle on cardboard. The horizontally designed classic shows the power-hitting slugger via a nicely illustrated batting stance that draws attention to his complete focus at the plate. This example, which is found in mid-grade condition, would make an excellent addition to anyone's vintage card collection. Graded PSA VG-EX 4.
