Description

1948 Bowman Warren Spahn Rookie #18 PSA NM-MT 8. Hall of Fame southpaw Warren Spahn was one of the greatest pitchers in major league history. Over his 21-year MLB career, Spahn posted 13 seasons in which he won 20 or more games and led the league in wins eight different times. On a side note, he spent three full years (1943 to '45) fighting for his country in uniform for the U.S. Army, and was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star after seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge. He spent nearly his whole MLB career playing for the Braves, first in Boston (eight years) and then in Milwaukee (12). He earned his only Cy Young Award in 1957, the same year he led the Braves to the franchise's second World Series title ever. He finished his career with 363 victories, most ever by a lefthander.

Presented is Spahn's 1948 Bowman rookie card, which was part of the company's first venture into baseball cards. Card #18 from the historic Bowman series presents a black-and-white profile pic of Spahn during his time in Boston. His rookie card is considered one of the set's anchors, along with the rookie cards of Yogi Berra and Stan Musial. Graded PSA NM-MT 8.
