Description

Circa 1902 Napoleon Lajoie Original Photograph by Carl Horner, Image Used for T206 Card with Card Included. He was so beloved by his adopted Cleveland hometown that they named the team for him. Lajoie was at the beginning of his long career when this 3.5x5.25" image was captured by Carl Horner. Given the jersey Lajoie is wearing in this studio photograph, it would have been taken in 1902. That was the only season Cleveland wore a blue jersey with "C" on the chest. In 1903-04 they also wore blue uniforms but those had the team name spelled out. This photograph was the one which Lajoie's T206 card was modeled after. The reverse has numerous pencil notations, "Apr 4 1934" date stamp and "Cleveland News" stamp. Tape reinforcement remedies a tear just above the team insignia. The rip is colored in as is a crease. PSA/DNA was not able to render an opinion because the photograph is applied to a backing. An example of the T206 card is included. The card is in Fair condition with modest corner wear and creasing down the middle.
