Description

1979 Robin Yount Game Worn Milwaukee Brewers Jersey, MEARS A10. If there was ever a player who epitomized the city he played for it was Robin Yount. Former teammate BJ Surhoff gave this glowing observation. "No one plays like Robin," Surhoff said in a Sports Illustrated article in 1990 to scribe Peter Gammons. "He runs out every ground ball to the pitcher as hard as he can. He is the best baserunner in baseball, he plays hitters perfectly, he's an incredible clutch hitter, he gives himself for the team at all person costs. When you play with him, you realized that he plays the game on the edge."

Yount plied his trade in the city of Milwaukee and is the franchise's signature star. Multiple times he could have left for brighter lights or more money but he was loyal to Bud Selig and the Brew Crew. Things weren't always rosy though. As a 22-year old, Yount threatened to quit and join the PGA Tour before he regained his senses. A MVP in 1982 was joined by another in '89 as Yount became one of only three men to win the coveted award at two positions. Bumps and bruises never seemed to sideline Yount either. Selig or his manager would need to tell Yount he wasn't in the lineup because of injury. Yount gamers are always a welcome sight for Brewers fans. But the offered gamer can be traced to the early portion of The Kid's career.

This "Sand Knit size 40" saw plenty of diamond action during the 1979 season as the Brewers began to make their move up the American League East ladder. The powder blue gamer, the preferred style among collectors, shows extensive use and was most likely worn for half the season. Consistent puckering and identifier fraying are visible throughout. "Milwaukee" is featured in cursive script with sets of numbers on both sides. Blue/yellow/blue piping surrounds the V-neck and sleeve ends. The tail includes Medalist Sand Knit tags sewn in tandem and an all-important "79 Yount 40" cloth swatch. MEARS graded this garment a perfect A10 and listed the use as "moderate." LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
