1956 Topps "Davy Crockett-Orange" Cello Box with 36 Unopened Packs. In the mid-1990's America was crazy for Beanie Babies. In the 1980's it was Cabbage Patch Kids. The 1960's was about the Beatles. In the mid-1950's it was Davy Crockett - King of the Wild Frontier. Disney studios produced the Davy Crockett television show that aired on ABC in 1954 and 1955 as a mini-series of five one-hour episodes but those five hours captured the attention of a generation. So popular was "Crockett-Mania" that the five episodes were made into two movies that must have fueled the craze as kids could now watch Davy Crockett (played by Fess Parker) larger than life on the silver screen. Davy Crockett would become a marketing machine selling hundreds of millions of dollars in merchandise. No self-respecting kid on the play-lot would be seen without wearing "Old Betsy." The program featured tales of the All-American icon who gave his life at the Alamo as a man of honesty, integrity and quiet justice who passionately battled injustice with words and dignified means but didn't hesitate to use his trusty rifle when justified.Topps produced a pair of 80-card gum card sets features scenes from the TV series but in true 1950's style left the grim reality behind why we should "Remember The Alamo" to the imagination and focused on his life and greatest accomplishments. The Orange series cards came in wax packs for 1-cent or 5-cents and in clear plastic cello packs. Offered is a virtually untouched box with 36 near pristine Orange-back cello packs still inside the original generic Topps box they have called home for over 60 years. The outer box shows the "Davy Crockett" stamp and some very light wear at corners. Interior packs are as exemplary as one could hope to find.
