1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Elmer Flick SGC 50 VG-EX 4 - The Only Known Card with Company Stamp Back. The Breisch-Williams Company was based in Oxford, PA. The firm is famous for their lone baseball card promotion, one highly regarded by advanced hobbyists and baseball historians alike. Designated "E107" in the American Card Catalog, the cards circulated in 1903 and 1904, making it the very first significant baseball card set of the twentieth century and also the first set to feature cards of the recently formed "American League." Among the roster of over 150 players are turn of the century luminaries including Mathewson, Wagner, Plank, Lajoie, Joss and Cy Young.On the list of E107 rookie debuts is Hall of Famer Elmer Flick, who was already a five-year veteran at the time of production. Although not a household name like Wagner or Lajoie, Flick was a multi-talented athlete that was offered to Detroit in 1907 for a highly touted youngster named Ty Cobb. Over the span of his thirteen-year career, Flick would lead the league in batting, runs, stolen bases (twice), RBIs, triples (three times), recording a lifetime batting average of .313.
Graded SGC 50 VG-EX 4, the highest graded card of only eight SGC examples. Overall, the card has no major faults and is graded for wholly acceptable levels of corner wear. A scarce entry in all regards, this card is special as it not only displays the scarcer "One of a hundred and fifty prominent Baseball players" ad but also the extremely rare purple "The Breisch Williams Company" stamp. Based on input of multiple advanced E107 specialists, it would appear that only one card for each player bears this stamp. That makes this already exciting acquisition extra special, as it is quite possibly a truly one-of-one rarity.
