1932-33 Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Dual-Signed Baseball, PSA/DNA NM+
7.5. "They didn't get along," explained fellow pinstriped Hall
of Famer Tony Lazzeri. "Lou thought Ruth was a big-mouth and Ruth
thought Gehrig was cheap. They were both right." Though their
personalities couldn't have been more different, the men whose
digits were the first to be retired from Yankee service share the
manner of athletic immortality reserved for just the highest
reaches of the athletic pantheon. Separately, their autographs
remain among the most coveted and collectible in the hobby, but
together that appeal swells exponentially, particularly when that
shared medium is horsehide.Presented is one of the finest dual-signed spheres from this iconic slugging tandem ever placed upon the hobby's auction block, boasting signatures rated 7/10 by the experts at PSA/DNA, with a matching grade for the OAL (Harridge) sphere which supplies the date in our lot title due to its two-season production run. The authenticators add an extra half-point for the elite aesthetics.
The special vintage finds no shortage of glory for these denizens of the Bronx, inclusive of Babe Ruth's "Called Shot" leading to the last World Championship this duo would share, the appearance of both sluggers in the very first All-Star Game, and Gehrig's assumption of the consecutive games record as he passed Everett Scott with number 1,308 on August 17, 1933.
