Description

1966 Haig & Haig 30th Anniversary of Sam Snead's First PGA Victory Commemorative Trophy. Impressive relic is nearly identical in design to the 1962 Challenge Cup trophy earned by Snead and presented within this Signature Auction, but this particular model was produced to commemorate the thirty-year anniversary of Snead's first of a career eighty-two PGA Tour victories. Front of trophy is engraved, "Haig & Haig Challenge Cup, Exact replica of 1700 antique Haig dispenser." Reverse bears the engraved facsimile signatures of well-wishers, an impressive roster including Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Billy Casper, Doug Sanders and more.

Engraved plaque on the heavy marble base reports the significance of the presentation: "In honor of Sam Snead, 30 years as a professional golfer, Sam Snead Day, October 18, 1966, Haig Scotch Mixed Tournament, La Costa C.C. & Spa, 1st tournament win, Virginia Closed Professional 1936." Handling wear apparent in scattered dents, a loose spout and a slightly askew plaque on base. Still an impressive relic honoring the sport's most prolific winner.
