A Hall of Famer in "The House!"

1933 Grover Cleveland Alexander Single Signed Baseball. Whether collectors of singles from 300 Game Winners, or simply from Hall of Famers, most will be lacking an example from this troubled legend, whose alcoholism, epilepsy and post-traumatic stress from World War I horrors couldn't derail one of the most remarkable pitching careers in baseball history. Alexander's death in 1950, and the aforementioned afflictions that saw him absent from the public eye with only rare exceptions since the end of his barnstorming days in the mid-1930's, have left only a tiny supply of single signed baseballs available to the collecting market.

Old Pete took one final crack at the Majors in 1930 at age forty-three, surrendering twenty-four earned runs in those last twenty-two innings, failing to add a single victory that season to his finally tally of 373. He'd find a safety net in the bearded "House of David," a legendary assembly of semi-professional barnstormers who provided patrons an entertaining blend of baseball, music and End Time religious prophecy.

The presented sphere derives from that famous partnership, an OAL (Harridge) sphere notated in an unknown hand, "June 5, 1933, Greeley - 4, House of David 3." But, of course, it is the magnificent sweet spot signature of their legendary ringer on the sweet spot that makes this a treasure of pre-war baseball memorabilia, Alexander's blue fountain pen ink retaining glorious 8/10 strength. A couple small areas of staining and a small dent/imprint both remain clear of the ace's impressive handiwork. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
