Description

Population three, just two superior!

1916 M101-4 Sporting News Joe Jackson (Blank Back) #87 PSA EX-MT 6. The moral complexity of the sport's greatest scandal has been the fuel that propels the rare surviving collectibles from the 1919 Black Sox to the pinnacle of collecting intrigue, the event serving as the ragged edge between the rough-and-tumble Dead Ball Era and the Golden Age of Babe Ruth. What had served as the sport's greatest shame is now one of its greatest points of intrigue, with the scant few relics surviving from that most consequential of baseball seasons fiercely coveted by modern collectors.

The offered trading card finds the greatest natural talent of the pre-war game just three years prior to the events that would forever alter the trajectory of his life. In this first full season wearing the uniform of the Chicago White Sox, the superstar outfielder led the American League in both triples (21) and total bases (293). The ChiSox would come up two games short of the Boston Red Sox' pennant-winning pace, allowing another legend by the name of Ruth the opportunity to compete for and win the world championship. But 1917 would prove to be Jackson's turn, the glory before the scandal.

In a full census of just twenty-one representations slabbed by the good folks at PSA, this specimen finds itself firmly planted within the top quarter of its deeply endangered species. Graded PSA EX-MT 6.
