Description
1906 Fan Craze National League Near Set (49/55) Plus Original Box, Game Board and Pieces. From the John Esch Collection. The 1906 "Fan Craze" baseball play tabletop card game was and remains one of most popular of the early-20th Century. Based in Cincinnati, OH, Fan Craze cards feature a clean design with nothing more than a large portrait above his name and city for which he played. Above that was a play result, such as: out, Bunt out, strike, hit by pitcher, Double Play, Caught him napping, etc. The roster spans the century mark with many new stars of the 20th century and aging 19th century stars like "Kid" Nichols. The backs have the Fan Craze logo printed in red for National League players and blue representing American League players. Card games of this type were significant as they filled in time gaps both before and after the major tobacco and candy card releases. Offered is a near set of 49 National League player cards plus an original box (FR with two corner splits and two repaired corner splits), score card, paper envelope for pegs and three player pegs. Includes: Ames, Beaumont, Beckley (VG-), Bergen, Bresnahan (VG+), M. Brown (VG/EX), Browne, Casey, Corcoran, Dahlen, Donlin, Dooin, Doolin, Duffy (EX), Dunleavy, Ewing, Fraser, Howard, Huggins (VG/EX), Kelley (EX/MT), Kling, Leach, Lumley, Lundgren, Maloney, McGann, McGinnity (VG/EX), McIntyre, Nichols (VG), O'Neil, Overall, Pfeffer, Phillippe, Pittinger, Pulliam, Ritchey, Ruelbach, Seymour, Sheckard, J. Taylor, L. Taylor (VG), Tenney, Theilman, Thomas, Weimer, Wicker, Willis (VG/EX), Wiltse, and I. Young. Missing: Header Card, Chance, Clarke, Hanlon, McGraw, and Wagner. Grades VG to VG/EX (mostly VG/EX) with a few nicer and a few lesser.Guide Value or Estimate: $4,000 - up.
