1971 Chuck Hughes Dies on the Field Detroit Lions Ticket Stub, PSA Good 2. This stub was on site for a singular tragedy in NFL history, when Lions wide receiver clasped his chest and dropped to the field at Detroit's Tiger Stadium late in the fourth quarter of a close contest against the visiting Chicago Bears. Sideline medics rushed to his aid and loaded him into an ambulance, but Hughes would be pronounced dead at Henry Ford Hospital, the victim of a blood clot that shut off the flow to his heart.
