Description

1909-11 T206 Drum Hooks Wiltse (Pitching) PSA Good+ 2.5 -- Pop One, Only One Higher! George Wiltse earned the nickname "Hooks" because of his excellent curveball, being one of the first pitchers to have the pitch be more effective than a fastball. Our offered 1909-11 T206 White Border tobacco card features Hooks Wiltse via his "Pitching" pose. A rarely encountered Drum Cigarettes advertisement is featured on the reverse. This card is graded PSA Good+ 2.5. This is the one of four graded examples by PSA!

More Information: 1909-1911 T206 Drum and Broad Leaf Back Collection
The legendary 1909-1911 T206 set produced by the American Tobacco Company includes 524 different player images/team changes and varieties. The T206 set features thirty-eight individual Hall of Famers, with seventy-six unique Hall of Famer images. Adding to the complexity of this prolific card issue, they were printed with sixteen different tobacco brand backs. Factoring in three distinct print series: "150, 350, and 460 Subjects," as well as myriad factory markings and back color variations, research experts estimate that the possible back variations represent close to 6,000 individual cards.
By reputation and statistical data, Drum and Broad Leaf back T206s are among the rarest and most revered back brands amongst advanced collectors. As of this writing, PSA has graded 277,009 T206 cards in total. Of those, the census shows only 166 Drum and 438 Broad Leaf examples.
Many collectors have pursued various individual brand back collections, but few have been as dedicated and successful as the consignor of the following lots. Presented here is the first of three offerings of what is most likely the greatest assemblage of T206 Drum back and Broad Leaf back cards ever compiled. It must be noted that any single card bearing Drum or Broad Leaf back advertising is an exceptional hobby treasure in any condition. However, the accumulation we unveil here and in forthcoming sales represents an unfathomably high percentage of the finest known examples with regard to player caliber and population rarity. This unprecedented offering of T206 "unicorns" is a seminal hobby moment we hope collectors will embrace.
