Description

1968 Al Kaline Signed Detroit Tigers Player's Contract from The Al Kaline Collection -- Championship Season! In a thirteen-year period, from 1955-67, Al Kaline was golden, earning sixteen All-Star berths, ten Gold Gloves, a batting title, and the moniker Mr. Tiger. The only thing missing from his resume was a World Series championship. The 1968 season checked that final box and provided Kaline with the crowning achievement of his long and storied career. During that magical summer and autumn, Detroit roared to the A.L. crown and then overcame the defending champion Cardinals in a dramatic seventh game, with Kaline leading the offensive charge by batting .379.

Here is the standard four page "Uniform Player's Contract," which paid Al $70,000 for the 1968 season. It bears his typed name and address on the first page; contains two attachments inside, which list the breakdown of salary and deferments; and is signed on the third page by "Albert W. Kaline" and the Detroit Tigers general manager "James A. Campbell," in overall 9/10 blue ink. The contract exhibits original storage folds but no other issues of note. Letter of provenance from Mark Kaline. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
