1941 New York Black Yankees Original Oversized Photograph.UPDATE: We are grateful to Negro League experts in our clientele for correcting our lot title to identify this team as the 1937 edition. This information supersedes our catalog text. This is the roster as supplied to us by those experts: Fats Jenkins, unknown, Roosevelt Davis, unknown, Barney Brown, unknown, Harry Kincannon, Neck Staley, Bud Barbee, George Giles, Walter Cannady, Curtis Henderson, Bob Clarke, unknown, Clint Thomas, Marvin Barker, difficult to see but likely Jake Stephens based on the roster and his height.
Extraordinary team shot is a treasure of this woefully under-documented league, and one of the largest we've ever encountered. This large format suggests ownership by a team member, as photos like this would have been too expensive to produce for fans. We believe that's Hall of Famer Mule Suttles standing third from right (first player partially obscured by water damage). Dimensions are 11x14", and the photo is affixed to a newer mount for support.
