Description

1916 Sporting Life March, 4 1916 - Babe Ruth's First Cover. The 1916 Red Sox featured two young southpaws of great potential, Hubert "Dutch" Leonard and George "Babe" Ruth. Sporting Life had intended to grace the cover of the March 4, 1916 edition of their magazine with the image of Leonard. Despite the caption "Hubert Leonard of the Boston A.L. Club," the unmistakable visage of the other lefthander, a young Babe Ruth, is present. This error created a unique collectible for Ruth fans: one of his first appearances in a national publication, and almost certainly his first cover. This rare survivor is in VG condition with no major issues (some minor creases), fully intact. Collectibles from Ruth's years with the Red Sox are very desirable. This piece is no exception and displays excellent eye appeal.
