Description
2016-17 Connor McDavid Game Worn Edmonton Oilers Jersey -- Photo Matched to First Game as Captain (10/12 vs. Flames)! Unquestionably one of the biggest days of this future Hall of Famer's spectacular career, October 12, 2016 marked the opening of the Oilers' new Rogers Place home and their young superstar's first game as captain of the storied franchise. The night began with a ceremony that saw former Oilers greats Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier pass the figurative torch to McDavid as the youngest NHL player to wear the "C" at just nineteen years and 266 days of age."The anticipation for this game was huge and the fans were excited and all the greats were in the building," McDavid said. "It was an exciting night for our whole organization and it was a good way to start it. I'm kind of happy it's over. I'll definitely take a lot of good memories from tonight and move on with those."
McDavid would score back-to-back goals in the second period against the visiting Calgary Flames, the second proving to be the game-winner in the 7-4 result. That second goal was also McDavid's first penalty shot of his NHL career (thus his first penalty shot goal as well). He also assisted Zack Kassian in the first period. Note that McDavid wore this jersey during the stirring pre-game ceremony as well as the first and second periods of the game.
The classic orange and blue gamer features the circular logo crest on the chest, and a black slash at the 10 o'clock position is a key data point in the MeiGray photo match. A patch celebrating the inaugural season at the Oilers' new home at upper right chest is balanced by the ultra-important first captain's "C" at left. Number "97" is applied in two-tone tackle twill at shoulders and verso, the latter sheltered by "McDavid" applied to rear nameplate.
Interior collar holds size "56" and "Elite Sportswear" flap tags. Lower rear interior tail reveals "Edmonton Oilers, Rogers Place Opening Night, Oct. 12, 2016 vs. Calgary, Set 1" and "MeiGray Group NHL Game-Worn Jersey 2016-2017 Season" labels, with fight strap anchored nearby. Photo match LOA from MeiGray. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
