Description

1909-11 T206 Sweet Caporal 350/30 Christy Mathewson (Dark Cap) PSA NM 7 - Pop One, Two Higher for B/S/F Combination. NOTE: Post catalog production, a correction to the brand has been to the title.

Christy Mathewson was a man defined by so much more than baseball. "The Christian Gentleman" was an upstanding role model at a time when most ballplayers were thought to be hard-living, hard-drinking souls from the unpolished margins of society. One of the greats to ever grace the mound, Mathewson captured the NL's pitching Triple Crown in 1905 and again in 1908 - leading the circuit in wins, strikeouts and earned run average. Offered is a T206 of Mathewson "Dark Cap" pose, the least seldom encountered of his three entries. The illustration displays wonderfully deep and bold colors surrounded by a bright, white but simply inconsistent frame. Graded PSA NM 7. Overall total PSA pop is over 1,400 submissions. Currently, eighty-five are confirmed with a "Sweet Caporal - 350 Subjects" brand back and factory 30 caption. Pop one with two higher for this brand/series/factory combination.
