Description

1952 Bowman Mickey Mantle #101 PSA EX 5. The Hall of Fame slugger came to baseball with a leg injury from high school football, but when Mantle, playing right field, caught his spikes in an outfield drain in trying to avoid a collision with Joe DiMaggio in the 1951 World Series, he tore ligaments in his knee- and that damage affected the rest of his career. Yet, Mickey still blasted 536 home runs, the most ever for a switch-hitter. Mantle's uniform #7 reflected the esteem the Yankees felt for him as his low number was a signal to fans the Mickey was the next in a line of Yankee idols from Ruth (#3), to Gehrig (#4), to DiMaggio (#5). Offered is a sophomore season card from the 1952 Bowman series. Graded PSA EX 5.
