The talents of Steve Carlton showed themselves early as Carlton posted winning seasons starting in 1967 and was an integral part of the Cardinals success that led them to the World Series in 1967 and 1968. Upon retirement, his W-L record was 329-244 earned him a high ranking as one of the game's greatest left handers.
