Description

1960 Rome Summer Olympic Games On-Site Poster by Armando Testa. This official on-site poster was created by Armando Testa for the 17th Olympic Games in Rome 1960 and sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee. It depicts a Roman Capitoline she-wolf feeding Romulus and Remus, the founders of ancient Rome, atop a Roman column. Meanwhile, a Belvedere capital decorates the column with the apotheosis of a winning athlete crowning himself with his right hand, while holding the palm of victory in his left.

This extremely rare on-site poster was published in eleven languages but only a scant few survive to this day. Mr. Kinunen purchased this specimen from a collector in Italy who removed it from the wall of one of the arenas in Rome which hosted the Games. The German/Italian text reads:

"Die XVII Olympischen Spiele, Roma 25.VIII-11.IX, Roma MCMLX" [Translated: "The XVII Olympic Games, Rome 25.VIII-11.IX, Rome MCMLX"].

Produced by IGAP Milan-Rome. Superbly matted and framed to 49.25x37.5" (38.5x26.75" visible in frame). Letter of provenance from Troy Kinunen.
