1911 Denver Grizzlies Western League Championship Watch Fob Presented by President William Howard Taft. The Western League may have been a single-A farm system, but the pennant winners spared no expense, no pomp and no circumstance when they set about to commemorate the achievement. This gorgeous watch fob rivals anything we've ever seen from the Majors, an absolute masterpiece of jewelry design that will impress even those with no interest in our national pastime. That's a genuine diamond set beneath the figural team mascot on the face, with raised text above reading, "Western League Champions, Denver 1911." Crossed bats hover above. Verso is artfully engraved, "Presented by The Denver Baseball Association to W.L. Haynes. Presentation made by President W.H. Taft, Oct. 3, 1911." Nearby stamping indicates fourteen karat (14K) gold construction. Diameter (not including bats) is about one and a half inches (1.5").Included in the lot is a two-page typed letter from the recipient on team letterhead which includes such text as, "Well, the base ball season is over and we won the pennant," and "McGill, the owner of the Denver Team,, made each of the players a present of a diamond studded watch fob for winning the pennant, and I being the Honorable Secretary, was presented with one also, of which I am very proud....President Taft presented the fobs at the ball park in front of about six thousand people, which makes them all the more valuable..."
